Bomb Threat on Delta Airlines Flight at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport Sparks Alarm
A Delta Air Lines flight from New York triggered an alert at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport after an anonymous bomb threat. All passengers were evacuated as searches began, following a separate cockpit attack aboard a Flydubai flight on September 30.
The Israel Airports Authority received the anonymous information alleging that the aircraft contained explosives. Authorities are searching the plane to determine whether the threat is genuine. All passengers have been safely removed from the aircraft, while the inspection continues.
The incident comes just days after another alarming episode involving a flight travelling from Dubai to Israel, in which an Omani pilot allegedly attacked his co-pilot during the journey.
Omani Pilot Attacked Co-Pilot on Flydubai Flight
The earlier incident occurred on September 30 aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv, Israel. An Omani co-pilot on board allegedly attacked Indian pilot Smit Machhar inside the cockpit.
According to the account of the incident, the Omani pilot struck his co-pilot with an emergency axe and attempted to take control of the aircraft. During the confrontation, the plane began descending rapidly, creating a serious situation on board.
Despite being seriously injured, Machhar managed to open the cockpit door. This allowed passengers and other crew members to enter the cockpit and overpower the attacker.
An off-duty pilot who was on board subsequently landed the aircraft safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia. The investigation into the incident is still underway.
Following the episode, Indian pilot Smit Machhar received international praise for his bravery in helping prevent the situation from escalating further.
The bomb threat at Ben Gurion Airport and the earlier cockpit assault aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073 have brought two separate aviation security incidents into focus. While passengers on the Delta Air Lines flight have been evacuated safely, the aircraft search remains ongoing, and the circumstances surrounding the earlier incident continue to be investigated.
